When most people think about stains inside the home, the first thought is always to their carpet. And rightfully so. The carpet inside a home takes quite a beating and is susceptible to all kinds of damage and stains. However, it isn't the only surface which can see stains, and it isn't the only surface which Williamson Cleanpro can help you with.

First Action Steps for Common Upholstery Stains

Using experience providing high-quality carpet cleaning in Franklin along with upholstery maintenance, Williamson Cleanpro has a list of common furniture stains, and how to deal with them.

Grease

While many people eat their meals at a dining table, more and more homeowners are opting to enjoy their meals on the couch watching a little bit of T.V. The challenge in doing this, however, is keeping grease stains from foods like pizza and fried chicken off your couch. If you notice a grease stain on your couch, here's what to do:
  1. Take a clean and damp paper towel and gently blot the grease stain to remove as much excess as possible.
  2. Cover the affected area with a good amount of baking soda and let it sit for about 20 minutes to absorb as much of the remaining stain as possible.
  3. Using the brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner, thoroughly remove all of the baking soda.
  4. With a secondary clean cloth, apply a small amount of dish soap (a brand which is designed to eliminate grease from your crockery will work best) and gently apply it to the remaining stain in a circular motion.
  5. Once the stain has been lifted, use a damp cloth to remove any remaining dish soap and allow to dry thoroughly.
Given how prevalent grease is in cooking, it is one of the most common stains which can appear on your furniture. If you were not able to remove the stain completely,  it's time to call a professional. Soda

Not just limited to kids, adults can spill their fair share of soda on the couch. When this happens, your best bet is to act quickly by following these steps:
  1. Use a dry cloth or paper towel to soak up as much of the spill as possible.
  2. Mix a solution of one tablespoon of liquid detergent to two cups of cool water.
  3. With a clean white cloth, gently blot the stain until the solution has been absorbed into the fabric.
  4. If the stain has not been removed during step 3, repeat a few times until it has completely lifted.
  5. Once the stain has been removed, blot the stain with clean water and blot until the area is completely dry.

Coffee

Now to a stain more ubiquitous with adults - coffee. Coffee is often thought of as a difficult to remove stain, however, with the right ingredients it doesn't have to be. Similar to each of the above stains, the quicker you act, the more success you are likely to see removing it. Here is what you will need to do:
  1. Remove as much liquid as possible with a clean cloth or some paper towels.
  2. If the stain is on a cushion cover and you can remove it, do.
  3. If possible, rinse the affected area thoroughly under cold water for around 5 minutes. As simple as it sounds, this should remove the majority of the stain before it has a chance to set in.
  4. If you are unable to rinse the area, do your best to blot the stain with clean water and remove it again with some pieces of dry paper towel.
  5. While you can use liquid detergent as mentioned above, if you have access to club soda, you are likely to see better results.
  6. Gently blot the area with club soda using a clean cloth and let it sit on the stain for 1 minute.
  7. Once the soda has removed the stain, rinse the affected area under cold water once more to remove any excess liquid. If you are not able to rinse the area, blot the stain with a cloth and some clean water to remove any excess liquid.
  8. Once the stain has been removed, be sure to let the area dry completely.
